Pictures of Dogs Being Worshipped in Nepal Are Going Viral For A Good Reason

Lately, the pictures of dogs being worshipped in Nepal are making rounds in social media and it’s for a good reason. The ‘Yulin Dog Meat Eating Festival’ China was held on June 21, even after the outrage against the festival online with the viral social media hashtag #StopYulin2015, while an online petition addressed to the Guangxi governor and China’s minister of agriculture had gathered more than four million signatures. Around ten thousand dogs are slaughtered every year in the festival. Netizens are now making the pictures of dogs worshipped in Nepal during a festival called ‘Kukur Tihar’ viral online and asking China to learn something from the Nepalese tradition.

Kukur Tihar (Dog Tihar) or Kukur Puja (worship of dogs) is celebrated every year in Nepal on the second day of five-day-long festival ‘Tihar’. Dogs are worshipped with garlands, tika and delicious food on this day, as they are believed to be messengers of the God of Death – Lord Yamraj. This tradition also acknowledges the cherished relationship between humans and dogs.
