Nepalese Passports to Have An Option For Third Gender

Nepalese government recently announced that the passports will now have an option for third gender along with male and female, making it convenient for the LGBT Nepalese.

Talking with Reuters; Lok Bahadur Thapa, chief of the government’s passport department, said, “We have changed the passport regulations and will add a third category of gender for those people who do not want to be identified as male or female.”

With the decision, Nepal has become one of the very few countries to allow for a gender other than male or female to be listed in identity documents. The members of LGBT society have welcomed the move. Homosexuality was legalized in Nepal in 2007.
